Sarah, Kerry, and my robot is probablly going to have a mechanical arm. I think that it would be helpful because if there is a rock on the surface or partially buried, the "claw" or clamp would be able to pick it up easily. here are two links that have good info and pics: www.britishblogs.co.uk/search/robotic%20arm/ and www.lpi.usra.edu/lunar/samples/apollo/tools/. The second link is actually a picture of a similar object used to pick up rock samples on our own moon.
ReplyDeletei think we should equip the robot withthings that will help it move arround on the moon. things such as large tires and a scooper. this will help us on our mission.
ReplyDeletei agree with jacob's thoughts.The rover should have everything it needs to make it easy for it to move across the terrain and pick up rock samples.I think we should build some soort of crane.It can pick up a deasent amount of rocks and can cover a large area without moving.
ReplyDeletea crane would be good to pick up rocks. plus it would be more easy to move arround. simplifyingour robot. it would also have better grip onthe rocks.

ReplyDeleteI think that kendra and jacob are right about how the rover should have a crane so it is easy to pick things put but how would we keep what we are sampling with out it falling out. i also think that we should make it easy for are rover to go over the terrain.

ReplyDeleteOn this other website on page 77 there is information and pictures of cranes and how to make them. The two websites can help us make are robot better and more durable.
I think a crane is a great idea and we should use it. the only dis advantage with the crane that we would build it that it would only be able to pick up one rock at a time.
