Why explore space?

NASA, and organizations that it works closely with, are always developing new projects, such as Project Amalthea, to travel to bodies within our solar system to gather information. Why do you think this important and what are the benefits to us of doing this?

  1. i think that we go to space to explore worlds unknown but i really dont understand why scientists go crazy over rocks. i mean who cares if the earth is 100 years old or 3.5 million years old but thats just my opinion no offense to people who love rocks

  2. i think that we go to space to explore to find out new life forms and visit mysterious planets that scientists want to learn more about. scientists are searching for a planet that has life substances on it and i find that very interesting.

  3. Scientists and Engineers send machines into space to explore distant planets. These missions are important for many reasons. Firstly, exploring different planets can teach us about how earth developped into what it is today, and it can show us what it will be in the future. Secondly, it is important to search for other life forms, so as to better understand evolution, and to promote the possiblility of discovering other sentient beings.

  4. I think that scientists and NASA are interested in space because there is always somthing new that we can discover there. Whether it's on a planet or a moon there is somthing new that we can always learn from space.

  5. i think that we travel to space to learn and discover. scientists want to learn about the different planets and life forms existing in space. by sending people and rovers up into space they are gathering information to help them learn about space.

  6. I think that scientists are interested in exploring space is because they want to learn more about how the Earth formed and other life forms that may be out there. By sending equipment into space, scientist can learn more on how to also make Earth a better place and how we can learn to protect it.

  7. and **discover** other life forms that may be out there

    _-_ Sorry about that.

  8. I am pleased to see the postings that have been made already on these snowy days. Many of you talk about the need to discover new information about the solar system and how the earth was formed. Can any of you relate any specific examples of how we have used this information from previous expeditions into space ?

Jacob, having read some of the other postings here, have your thoughts changed about why scientists go crazy about rocks?

  9. I agree with Jacob and his rock theory. Rocks might be important but still, i dont know why. It might be important and i will make sure the robot will be able to pick up rocks!

  10. I think we explore space to learn about, and discover different life forms. They also explore space to learn about Earth and how it was formed.

  11. From this image it looks like a traditional camera won't work.

Inferred might be better. Exploring the surface could also help NASA learn to build colonies in space for the future. Maybe by looking at NASA's past, present, and future missions we can see what they have already discovered in Space, and what is still a mystery. The Project Amalthea mission could help solve some of these mysteries. Finally, I think that adding sensors (temperature, pressure) would help NASA make spacecrafts and spacesuits for manned space missions.

  12. Exploring space is important because it is good to know what else is out there life-from and material wise. Also by studying newly formed planets it may determine more about what Earths past was about which may unlock more about what the future for Earth is.

  13. I think exploring space is important because the more you lean about other planets the more we know about our own planet.

  14. i think that exploring space is important because every time a space shuttle or human goes up there we learn something that might affect something that is going on on Earth. It could also give us an idea about if one day people could possibly live there.

  15. space exploration is important to scientists because not only can they learn about distant worlds, but can also learn about how earth was formed through other planets. scientists can also learn if other forms of life exist and how they survive compared to us humans, and discover new elements and materials on other planets.

  16. I think we go into space because of a natural human curiosity and a driving instinct to learn.

  17. i think we explore space to find out more about earth, and to see if anymore planets have life or could have the conditions for life

  18. i think we shoould explore space to find out more about earths history and to see if there are life forms in the universe

  19. i think we whould explore space to find out more about earth and the other planets to see how different or how everything has changed. Also so we can see that things are there not that werent there before, and to discover new things.

  20. The scientists at NASA want to explore space because they wnat to know if there are other beings out there. Someday we might run out of room on Earth... if there are other inhabitable planets out there, we should try to find them and see if we are able to live in their conditions. Sort of a back-up plan if we end up destroying our planet. Also, we are pretty advanced in technology. But what if there are beings who are even more advanced than us?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I agree with Sierra. If we could find other life forms in space as advanced in technology as we are or more, we could learn so much from them and learn more about the rest of our solar system. We can also compare earth to other planets and see if we have a close relation with those other planets, and find out what we can do to keep earth from getting over populated.

  22. I agree with both Sierra and J.P.
I think that exploring space will help scientist at NASA understand more about planet Earth, i.e. how it was formed, what changes it has undergone, and what lies ahead. Earth does have limited resources, and I think that it projects like Cassini Huygens, Kepler, and Amalthea are important to discover if there are other planets out there, beyond Earth, where life can exist.

  23. Space exploration is essential to discovering how space was formed. By understanding how other planets/moons were formed and how they act can help us understand how our own planet was formed and what can happen to it in the future. By exploring space we are almost writing a figurative book on its history that would help us understand why things are the way they are and what we can expect in the future.

  24. we should explore space because it will help us figure out more about our earth

  25. Scientists are exploring space for many reasons. For one, seeing younger or older planets similar to our own gives us insights into our planet's past and future. On the other hand, humans are venturing into space because we have gazed at the stars for hundreds and thousands of years, curious about their contents and possibilities, and now we possess the technology allowing us to venture into the last frontier.

  26. I think that space is interesting because we can explore the world in different ways and discover new things.

  27. I think we explore space to learn, discover, and understand new things. We also explore space to see if there are other lifeforms out there similar to us.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think that we explore space so we can see if there are any other life forms on other planets. Scientists like to explore and collect rocks and other materials from other planets. It also helps them learn more about the earth.

  29. I think scientists explores space for a few reasons. One reason being to, as JP said, compare Earth to other plantets, and learn more about Earth's past and also, its future. Scientists are also beginning to try to visit other planets like Mars to see if there is actual life outside of our own planet.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think we explore space because scientists want to learn more about the history of our planet. Much like the reasons for project Amelthia, other planets in early stages of development, could show us how life and water came to Earth.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Exploring space is important because the more we learn about other planets, the more we learn about our own. By seeing how other planets work, we can learn more about how our own planet works. Searching for new life forms is another reason we explore space.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i think we explore space to learn more about how the earth was billions of years ago, how it may be some day, and learn about the unique conditions of other planets

    ReplyDelete
  33. Space travel is so important because it increases our knowledge of how the earth functions. Its seems to me that space travel has recentely been on distant planets which is good because they can pick unkown information, such conditions and life forms. This whole process helps increase our knowledge of solar system.

  34. I dont understand why we go to space, its not really of my interest, of course people want to know but what is there to know, like jacob and evan said whats the big deal about rocks and whats the big deal about a moon with a bunch of toxic gas floating around, i dont see the reason when everything we need is on earth, like jacob said who cares how old stuff is as long as it works
